NRC ADVISORY COMMITTEE ON MEDICAL USES OF ISOTOPES TO MEET IN ROCKVILLE, MARYLAND, ON NOVEMBER 8 - 9

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission's Advisory Committee on the Medical Uses of Isotopes (ACMUI) has scheduled a public meeting on November 8-9 in Rockville, Maryland.

The committee advises the NRC on policy and technical issues that arise in regulating the medical uses of radioactive material for diagnosis and therapy.

The meeting will be held in Room T-2B3 of the agency's Two White Flint North building, at 11545 Rockville Pike, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on November 8, and from 8 a.m. to noon the following day.

The committee will discuss the rulemaking status of the regulation on "Medical Use of Byproduct Material," its implementation and issues concerning intravascular brachytherapy, which is the placement of temporary or permanent radioactive sources within blood vessels to prevent or reduce blockage of the vessels after other cardiovascular treatments. The committee also will review its own performance using established criteria, NRC's Strategic Plan and the planning, budget and performance measures process.

Those seeking further information on the meeting or wishing to provide a written statement should contact Betty Ann Torres, at 301-415-0191, or e-mail bat@nrc.gov. Seating for the public will be on a first-come, first-served basis.
