NRC ADVISORY COMMITTEE ON REACTOR SAFEGUARDS TO MEET ON STEAM GENERATOR TUBE ISSUES OCTOBER 10-13

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission's Advisory Committee on Reactor Safeguards (ACRS) has scheduled a meeting of its ad hoc subcommittee in Rockville, Maryland, on October 10-13, to discuss a differing professional opinion on nuclear power plant steam generator tube issues.

The meeting, which is open to the public, will be held in Room T-2B3 of the agency's Two White Flint North building, at 11545 Rockville Pike, beginning at 1 p.m. on October 10 and 8:30 a.m. on the remaining three days.

On October 10, the ad hoc subcommittee will discuss its approach for reviewing the technical merits of Differing Professional Opinion (DPO) issues associated with steam generator tube integrity, and developing comments and recommendations for consideration by the full Committee.

The following day the subcommittee will hear presentations by and hold discussions with the author of the steam generator DPO and other interested persons about DPO issues, views on the adequacy of the NRC staff's approach for resolving these issues, and other areas of concern.

On October 12, the subcommittee will conduct a session regarding the status of resolution of DPO issues and related matters. The last day of the session will include discussion on these issues with the staff and the DPO author, as needed, and the development of proposed comments and recommendations for consideration by the full Committee.

Those who wish to make oral or written statements, or seek additional information on the meeting or changes to the agenda, should contact either Sam Duraiswamy, at 301-415-7364, or Undine Shoop, at 301-415-8086.

ACRS meeting notices, transcripts and letters are available on the internet, at http://www.nrc.gov/ACRSACNW/.
