NRC TO HOLD PUBLIC MEETING ON NUCLEAR RESEARCH IN MARYLAND ON SEPTEMBER 15 The Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) has scheduled a public meeting to further discuss the role and future direction of nuclear regulatory research on September 15 in Rockville, Maryland. Participants in the meeting, a follow-up to an initial session in August, will include government officials, members of the general public, industry representatives, as well as experts from academia and the international arena. The public meeting will be held at the Ramada Inn at 1775 Rockville Pike, across the street from the Twinbrook Metro Station on the Red Line. It will start at 8 a.m. and is expected to end at, or prior to, 5 p.m. The session will include discussion of nuclear regulatory research's future role in terms of anticipated challenges and the independent assessment of operational data. Results from this meeting of experts will be summarized at the agency's annual Water Reactor Safety Information Meeting to be held October 23-25. During this month's meeting, the expert group will also continue its discussion on how the Office of Nuclear Regulatory Research is fulfilling the responsibilities it acquired from the previous Office for Analysis and Evaluation of Operational Data. Those who seek additional information or agenda updates on the meeting, should contact Jim Johnson, at 301-415-6293. Seating for the meeting is limited and will be on a first-come, first-serve basis. # # # # # |
