NRC SCHEDULES ADDITIONAL MEETING ON DRAFT ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT STATEMENT FOR PROPOSED SPENT FUEL FACILITY IN UTAH

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission, together with the Bureau of Indian Affairs, the Bureau of Land Management, and the Surface Transportation Board, have scheduled an additional public meeting on August 21 in Salt Lake City to obtain further public comments on the Draft Environmental Impact Statement for the proposed Private Fuel Storage facility, which would store spent nuclear fuel on the Goshute Indian Reservation. The site is located in Skull Valley, between the Stansbury and Cedar mountains, southwest of Salt Lake City.

The meeting was scheduled at the request of attendees at last month's public meetings which were held in Salt Lake City and Grantsville, Utah.

The meeting will be held in the ballroom of the Little America Hotel, at 500 South Main Street, with one session from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., and a second from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m.

Copies of the "Draft Environmental Impact Statement for the Construction and Operation of the Independent Spent Fuel Nuclear Storage Installation on the Reservation of the Skull Valley Band of Goshute Indians and the Related Transportation Facility in Tooele County, Utah," NUREG-1714, are available on the agency's website, at http://www.nrc.gov/NRC/NUREGS/indexnum.html
