NRC TO HOLD PUBLIC MEETING ON INDIAN POINT 2 NUCLEAR PLANT STATUS Nuclear Regulatory Commission staff will meet with the public on Thursday, November 16, to provide an update on the status of the Indian Point 2 nuclear power plant, including the replacement of the facility's steam generators. The meeting is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. at Cortlandt Town Hall, 1 Heady Street, Cortlandt Manor, N.Y. Among the topics to be covered will be the results of recent NRC inspections and the status of the agency's ongoing review of site activities. In addition, members of the public will have an opportunity to ask questions relating to NRC oversight of the plant. Indian Point 2, located in Buchanan, N.Y., has been out of service since February 15, when the facility experienced a steam generator tube failure. In August, Consolidated Edison decided to replace all four of the plant's steam generators -- large components that transfer heat from the reactor systems to the power-generating portion of a nuclear power plant. Company officials now hope to restart the plant before the end of the year. ### |
