NRC PROHIBITS FORMER OWNERS OF AN INDIANA COMPANY FROM PARTICIPATING IN NRC-LICENSED ACTIVITIES The Nuclear Regulatory Commission staff has issued an order prohibiting the former owners of an Indiana company from being involved in NRC-licensed activities for five years as a result of their violation of various NRC regulations. In the order, the NRC said William and Joan Kimbley of Danville, Indiana, possessed nuclear moisture density gauges from January 15, 1997 to May 14, 1997, then again from June 1997 to January 1999 without a valid license and contrary to a 1995 Confirmatory Order issued by the NRC. The 1995 Confirmatory Order prohibited the Kimbleys from involvement in NRC licensed activities for five years. The recently issued order also stated that William Kimbley had provided false information to the NRC regarding his possession of the gauges, which violates NRC regulations. The June 12, 1995, Confirmatory Order was issued to the Kimbleys for several deliberate violations of NRC requirements and the nonpayment of fees. The Kimbleys previously were officers of Midwest Testing, Inc., a company that was licensed by the NRC from 1992 to 1995 to possess and use cesium-137 and americium-241 as sealed sources in moisture density gauges. Midwest Testing, Inc. is no longer in business. In addition to prohibiting the Kimbleys from involvement in NRC-licensed activities for five years, the order also states that for another five years - or from 2005-2010 - the couple is required to notify the NRC within 20 days of accepting any employment that involves NRC-licensed activities or becoming involved in any NRC-licensed activity. # # # |
