NRC Media Workshop Scheduled May 16-17 The Nuclear Regulatory Commission will hold its annual two-day workshop for news reporters May 16-17 at its headquarters in Rockville, Maryland. NRC senior managers and staff specialists will brief participants extensively on the agency's new reactor oversight program, radiation basics, control of solid materials at licensed facilities, physical security at reactors, mergers and foreign ownership of reactors, plant license renewal, decommissioning, spent fuel storage and transportation, and re-design of the agency's web page. Everything will be on the record. The workshop should be especially useful for reporters who cover news events at nuclear facilities near their communities. Participants will receive background materials which may be taken home for quick reference. There is no charge for attending the workshop, but reporters must cover their own food, transportation, and lodging expenses. A block of rooms is being held at a hotel in the vicinity of the NRC. Because the size of the meeting room is limited, those interested in attending should contact the NRC Office of Public Affairs by May 5, at (301) 415-8200, (e-mail: opa@nrc.gov ) # # # # # |
