NRC TO MEET WITH CON ED REGARDING INDIAN POINT 2 STEAM GENERATORS Nuclear Regulatory Commission staff will meet with officials of Consolidated Edison Company of New York on Friday, July 28, to discuss the company's response to a July 20 NRC letter to Con Ed regarding steam generators at the Indian Point 2 nuclear power plant. The meeting, which will begin at 10 a.m., will be held at the Energy Education Center at the Indian Point 2 site, at Broadway and Bleakley Avenue in Buchanan, N.Y. It will be open to members of the public for observation only. NRC staff will be available afterwards for questions. The July 20 letter requests additional information regarding the company's proposed plan to restart Indian Point 2 with existing steam generators. The NRC staff has concerns regarding the assumptions and uncertainties in the analysis provided by Con Ed. Without further information, the NRC is not able to reach a decision regarding the ability of the tubes to maintain their structural integrity. A copy of the request for additional information is available at: www.nrc.gov/NRC/REACTOR/IP/index.html or at www.nrc.gov/OPA/gmo/nrarcv/00-051i.html . # |
