NRC Advisory Committee on Reactor Safeguards to Meet in Rockville, Maryland, on April 5-7

The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission's Advisory Committee on Reactor Safeguards (ACRS) has scheduled a meeting on April 5 - 7 in Rockville, Maryland, to discuss, among other items, last year's partial loss of power at Indian Point Unit 2 in New York.

The meeting, which will be open to the public, will be held in Room T-2B3 of the agency's Two White Flint North building, at 11545 Rockville Pike, Rockville, starting at 8:30 a.m. each day.

On the opening day of the meeting, the committee will discuss a proposed final report of a technical study on spent fuel pool accident risk for decommissioning plants, a proposed white paper on the development of risk-based performance indicators and a revised version of the human performance program.

On April 6, the day's agenda will include review of special studies for risk-based analysis of the reactor operating experience, an NRC team's findings and recommendations regarding the reactor shutdown and partial loss of AC power at Indian Point Unit 2 in New York last August, and the reports of the materials and metallurgy, and thermal-hydraulic phenomena ACRS subcommittees.

The following day's schedule will feature the continuation of proposed ACRS reports and miscellaneous activities.

Those who seek additional information or schedule updates about this meeting should contact Sam Duraiswamy, at 301-415-7364.

Other aspects of the meeting are described in an upcoming Federal Register notice. ACRS meeting notices, transcripts and letters are available on the internet, at http://www.nrc.gov/ACRSACNW .
