Working Group Meeting on Control of Solid Materials Cancelled

A paper being prepared for the Commission on issues associated with the control of solid materials from licensed facilities having very small amounts of residual radioactivity is finished and ready for management review, eliminating the need for an upcoming meeting.

The NRC staff has cancelled a March 8 meeting intended for interested parties to observe development of the paper. The meeting was to have been the third in a series held for this purpose.

The agency is examining its approach for the control of solid materials, and currently evaluates license requests for release of solid materials on a case-by-case basis.

The Commission paper, expected in March, will communicate stakeholder concerns and develop issues for Commission consideration.
