ENTERGY COMMITS TO IMPROVE SECURITY AT WATERFORD 3 NUCLEAR PLANT NRC Issues Confirmatory Order The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission has confirmed commitments made by Entergy Operations, Inc., operators of the Waterford 3 nuclear power plant near Taft, Louisiana, to resolve weaknesses in the physical security program at the plant. The NRC issued a confirmatory order on August 4 that gives the company until November 30 to meet those commitments. This action comes following an NRC inspection in March during table-top and realistic, force-on-force security exercises at Waterford 3. The inspection identified a number of weaknesses in the plant's security plan. Entergy security managers implemented interim compensatory measures immediately after the exercise, which provided for adequate protection of the plant in the near term. Since March, in a series of meetings and written communications, Entergy has committed to make permanent improvements in the physical security program. In addition, Entergy will demonstrate its ability to protect the plant in another force-on-force exercise within 90 days of completing provisions in the confirmatory order. ### |
