NRC STAFF POSTPONES JUNE 1 MEETING WITH SOUTHERN NUCLEAR SCHEDULED TO DISCUSS APPARENT VIOLATION AT FARLEY PLANT The Nuclear Regulatory Commission staff has postponed indefinitely a predecisional enforcement conference with officials of Southern Nuclear Operating Company which had been scheduled for Thursday, June 1 in Atlanta. The purpose of that conference was to discuss regulatory safety questions the agency has concerning the Unit 2 service water system at the two-unit Farley nuclear power plant, located near Columbia, Alabama. NRC officials said the conference is being postponed to allow Southern Nuclear to provide new information from the equipment vendor which may change the safety significance of this issue and potentially make the conference unnecessary. The NRC staff will make a decision on whether to continue with the predecisional enforcement conference based on its assessment of the new information. # |
