NRC Advisory Committee on Reactor Safeguards to Meet in Rockville, Maryland, on March 1 - 4

The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission's Advisory Committee on Reactor Safeguards (ACRS) has scheduled a meeting on March 1 - 4 in Rockville, Maryland.

The meeting, which will be open to the public, will be held in Room T-2B3 of the agency's Two White Flint North Building, at 11545 Rockville Pike, Rockville, starting at 1 p.m. on March 1.

On the opening day of the meeting, the committee will hear presentations by the NRC staff regarding the status of developing risk-informed revisions to Part 50 of the Commission's regulations, discuss proposed ACRS reports on reactor low-power and shutdown operation risk, and examine proposed revisions to the Commission's safety goal policy statement for reactors.

On March 2, the day's agenda, which begins at 8:30 a.m., will include technical components associated with revised reactor oversight, the Oconee Nuclear Power Plant License Renewal Application, the proposed final amendment to 10 CFR 50.72 and 50.73, and the proposed final revision to Regulatory Guide 1.160, "Assessing and Managing Risk Before Maintenance Activities at Nuclear Power Plants."

The committee will meet with the NRC Commissioners in the Commissioners' Conference Room, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., on March 2 to discuss risk-informed regulation and related matters.

The following day's schedule, which also begins at 8:30 a.m., will include discussion of issues regarding high burn-up fuel and a proposed resolution of generic safety issue B-17, "Criteria for Safety-Related Operator Actions."

On March 4, the meeting will begin at 8:30 and focus on discussion of proposed ACRS reports and miscellaneous issues.

The ACRS is an advisory committee to the agency, conducting independent, highly technical reviews of safety considerations related to nuclear facilities. Those who seek additional information or schedule updates about this meeting should contact Sam Duraiswamy, at 301-415-7364.

Other aspects of the meeting will be described in an upcoming edition of the Federal Register. ACRS meeting notices, transcripts and letter reports are available on the internet, at http://www.nrc.gov/ACRSACNW .
