NRC TO MEET WITH DIABLO CANYON OFFICIALS TO DISCUSS INSPECTION OF ELECTRICAL FIRE The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission staff will meet June 29 with officials from the Diablo Canyon nuclear power plant to discuss findings from its special inspection of events surrounding the May 15 electrical fire and automatic plant shutdown. The meeting will be held at the PG&E Community Center, 6588 Ontario Rd., San Luis Obispo, Calif., beginning at 2 p.m. The public is invited to observe the meeting, and NRC officials will be available afterward for questions. On May 15 an electrical fault led to a fire in a Unit 1 electrical bus. Because certain electrically powered equipment lost power, the plant's main generator shut down, followed by the automatic shutdown of the Unit 1 reactor. There were no injuries from the fire. An NRC special inspection team was assigned to review the events on May 18. ## |
