Note to Editors: NRC Chairman to Hold News Conference on Thursday, April 13

Reporters Invited To View Via Videoconference At Regional Office

Nuclear Regulatory Commission Chairman Richard A. Meserve will hold a news conference at 11:00 a.m. (Edt) on Thursday, April 13, to discuss current NRC initiatives. The news conference will be held at NRC headquarters in Rockville, Maryland, but will be available to interested observers in other parts of the United States via videoconference to the agency's regional offices.

Interested reporters are invited to view the news conference while it is in progress via special videoconference arrangements in the Region I office in King of Prussia, Pa.

Reporters who plan to attend are asked to the Region I public affairs officers, either by telephone or email. Reporters should report to the Public Meeting Room of the NRC Region I Office, 475 Allendale Road, in King of Prussia, Pa.

Nuclear Regulatory Commission staff will meet with representatives of the Three Mile Island 1 nuclear power plant next Tuesday to discuss the results of the agency's latest Plant Performance Review for the facility. The plant, which is located in Middletown, Pa., is operated by AmerGen Energy Company.

Issuance of the reviews was announced in NRC news release 00-059 on April 5. The Plant Performance Review letter can be found on the agency's web site at: http://www.nrc.gov/OPA/ppr/ .

The meeting, which will be open to the public for observation, will be held at 2 p.m. at the plant's Training Center, Room 118, on Route 441 in Middletown. At its conclusion, NRC staff will be available to answer questions from interested observers and to meet with state and local officials.
