NRC Staff to Discuss Clinton Inspection Findings

**Regional Administrator to Hold Press Conference Following Meeting**

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission staff will meet with AmerGen Energy Co. officials Friday, March 10, to discuss the findings of an NRC team inspection evaluating plant operations at the Clinton Nuclear Power Station.

The meeting, which is open to the public, will be held at 10 a.m. CST in the utility's Energy and Environmental Center on Illinois Highway 54 east of Clinton, Illinois.

NRC Regional Administrator James Dyer will hold a press conference in the Energy and Environmental Center after meeting with the utility.

NRC and AmerGen representatives will discuss the findings of the Operational Safety Team Inspection, which is an in-depth team inspection that evaluates the performance of the plant's staff and operations. The inspection involves continuous observation in the plant's control room as well as other aspects of plant operation.

Clinton's Unit 1 was shut down in September 1996 for performance improvement activities and modifications. It resumed operation last May. The NRC scheduled this inspection to check the plant's progress after it had been operating for a number of months. The inspection began February 22 and will end March 10.

NRC and utility representatives also will discuss AmerGen's five-year strategic plan at the March 10 meeting.
