NRC Inspection Team at Hatch Plant to Brief Southern Nuclear Officials Friday Meeting will Be Open to Public Observation A team of Nuclear Regulatory Commission inspectors, dispatched to Southern Nuclear Operating Company's Hatch nuclear power plant, located near Baxley in southern Georgia, this past weekend to review a January 26 automatic shutdown, will brief company officials on their preliminary findings at 10:00 a.m. Friday, February 4 at the plant site. The briefing will be open to observation by the public and the media and NRC officials will be available at its conclusion to answer observers' questions. Unit 1 automatically shut down when a valve in one of the two main lines carrying water to the reactor closed, and some of the equipment did not operate as expected. The NRC inspection team, called an Augmented Inspection Team or AIT, is reviewing equipment performance, operator actions and company response to the event . The NRC team will issue a written report which will be available to the public in several weeks. # # |
