NRC Advisory Committee on Reactor Safeguards to Meet in Clearwater, Florida, January 27-29

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission's Advisory Committee on Reactor Safeguards (ACRS) has scheduled a meeting of its subcommittee on planning and procedures for January 27-29 in Clearwater, Florida.

On Thursday, January 27, the subcommittee will discuss issues related to probabilistic risk assessment (PRA), including development of industrial standards for PRA quality, risk-informing 10 CFR Part 50, impediments to the increased use of risk-informed regulation, various aspects of the revised reactor oversight process, such as the technical adequacy of current and proposed performance indicators, and safety culture.

During the Friday session, the subcommittee will discuss best-estimate computer codes, the technical quality of these codes, industry views on ACRS activities, self-assessment of ACRS performance, and the proposed response to follow-up questions resulting from the ACRS meeting with the Commission on November 4, 1999.

Saturday's agenda will cover discussions of proposed positions on PRA issues and on the technical adequacy of current and proposed performance indicators for the revised reactor oversight process, and possible future ACRS activities.

The meeting will be held in the Radisson Suite Resort, Cedarwood #2 Room, 1201 Gulf Boulevard, Clearwater, Florida, beginning at 8:30 a.m. each day.

Those who wish to make oral statements or seek additional information or schedule updates about this meeting, which is open to the public, should contact John Larkins, at 301-415-7360.

Other aspects of the meeting are described in an upcoming edition of the Federal Register. ACRS meeting notices, transcripts and letter reports are available on the internet, at http://www.nrc.gov/ACRSACNW .# # # # #
