NOTE TO EDITORS:

Two subcommittees of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission's Advisory Committee on Reactor Safeguards (ACRS) will hold a joint meeting August 26-27 in Rockville, Maryland.

The meeting, which will be open to public observation, will begin each day at 8:30 a.m. in Room T-2B3, of the NRC's Two White Flint North Building at 11545 Rockville Pike. The Subcommittees on Materials and Metallurgy and on Severe Accidents will review the staff's interim safety evaluation report of an industrial document related to BWR pressure vessel shell weld inspection requirements and associated recommendations, and a proposed generic letter and regulatory guide on steam generator integrity. The subcommittees will also discuss the staff's response to a differing professional opinion and to previous ACRS concerns associated with steam generator integrity.

Other aspects of the meeting, including an opportunity for public comment, will be described in a Notice of Meeting published in a forthcoming edition of the Federal Register.
