NRC ADVISORY COMMITTEE ON REACTOR SAFEGUARDS

TO MEET JULY 9-11

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission's Advisory Committee on Reactor Safeguards (ACRS) has scheduled a technical meeting July 9-11 in Rockville, Maryland.

The meeting, which is open to the public, will be held in Conference Room 2B3 in the NRC's Two White Flint North Building at 11545 Rockville Pike.

Although meetings of the ACRS are open, they are not part of the NRC's public hearing process. The ACRS, an advisory group to the Commission, conducts independent, highly technical reviews of safety considerations related to nuclear facilities. While anyone may attend, the committee will consider only oral or written statements arranged in advance and limited to specific matters set forth in a Notice of Meeting published in the Federal Register June 24.

The meeting may include closed sessions, if required, to discuss proprietary or personnel information.

Here is the complete meeting agenda:

WEDNESDAY, JULY 9

8:30 to 8:45 a.m. -- Opening remarks by the ACRS chairman.

8:45 to 10:15 a.m. -- Meeting with the Director of the NRC Office of nuclear Reactor regulation for discussion on topics including low-power and shutdown operations risk, NRR research needs, status of fire protection program, use of risk-informed, performance-based prioritization of compliance issues and coordination of ACRS review of NRR activities.

10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. -- Discussions with the ACRS Senior Fellow on his analysis of site-specific changes in core damage frequency and large, early release frequency.

1:00 to 2:30 p.m. -- Discussions with NRC staff on proposed Standard review Plan section and Regulatory Guide for risk-informed, performance-based inservice inspections.

2:45 to 3:45 p.m. -- Meeting with NRC Commissioner Edward McGaffigan.

4:00 to 6:00 p.m. -- Discussions with NRC staff on proposed final modifications to 10 CFR Part 26 (fitness for duty requirements).

6:15 to 7:15 p.m. -- Preparation of ACRS reports.

THURSDAY, JULY 10

8:35 to 10:30 a.m. -- Discussion with NRC staff on the OECD Halden Reactor Project on human factors, instrumentation and control systems, software quality and reactor fuels.

10:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. -- Discussion with NRC staff on use of the RASCAL code to calculate off-site doses.

1:15 to 1:45 p.m. -- Future ACRS activities.

1:45 to 2:00 p.m. -- Reconciliation of ACRS comments and recommendations with those of the NRC Executive Director for Operations.

2:00 to 7:00 p.m. -- Preparation of ACRS reports.

FRIDAY, JULY 11

8:35 to 10:00 a.m. -- Discussion with NRC staff of NUREG/CR-6372, Recommendations for Probabilistic Seismic Hazard Analysis; Guidance on Uncertainty and Use of Experts.

10:15 to 11:00 a.m. -- Report of the Planning and procedures Subcommittee.

11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. -- Preparation of ACRS reports.

1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. -- Preparation of ACRS reports continued.

3:15 to 4:00 p.m. -- Strategic planning session.

4:00 to 4:30 p.m. -- Miscellaneous matters.
