I-97-84 July 14, 1997
A radioactive source that had been lost at a construction site in Claymont, De., has been found. The source is now in a shielded container, and will be sent to the manufacturer for disposal.
Ambric Engineering notified the Nuclear Regulatory Commission on Friday, July 11, that a piece of the source rod from a portable moisture-density gauge had apparently broken off during work at the Ballymeade development on Delaware state route 92 on June 25. Following that work, Ambric Engineering sent the gauge to its manufacturer for maintenance. On July 10, the manufacturer notified Ambric that the source rod was missing from the gauge.
The NRC staff will continue to review licensee actions concerning the loss of the sealed source.
