NRC OFFICIALS TO MEET WITH FPC ON NOVEMBER 20 TO DISCUSS STATUS OF CRYSTAL RIVER RESTART
Meeting At NRC Headquarters Is Open To Public Observation
Nuclear Regulatory Commission officials will meet with Florida Power Corporation management at NRC Headquarters in Washington, D. C. on Thursday, November 20, to review the status of company plans for restart of the Crystal River nuclear power plant later this year.
The meeting will be held at 1:00 p.m. at the NRC headquarters complex, located at One White Flint North, 11555 Rockville Pike, in Rockville, Maryland, a Washington suburb. Attendees using the Washington Metro system should board the Yellow Line at National Airport and switch to the Red Line destined for Shady Grove at Gallery Place. From downtown Washington, board a Red Line train bound for Shady Grove. Depart the Red Line at the White Flint station and proceed to the NRC buildings located across from the subway entrance.
The company temporarily shut down the Crystal River nuclear plant in September of 1996 to resolve concerns related to regulatory safety and design and has been working to ready the facility for a restart projected for late this year.
The meeting is between officials of the NRC and FPC but is open to the public for purposes of observation. NRC officials will be available at the meeting's conclusion to answer questions from reporters or other interested observers.
