RIII-97-53 June 5, 1997
The Nuclear Regulatory Commission staff will hold a meeting with officials of the AlliedSignal, Inc., commercial nuclear fuel facility in Metropolis, Illinois, on Thursday, June 12, to discuss the plant's performance.
The meeting will start at 2 p.m. (CDT) in the Council Room of the Metropolis City Hall, 106 West Fifth Street in Metropolis. It is open for public observation.
NRC officials will discuss with AlliedSignal a Licensee Performance Review performed by the agency in which performance in safety operations, radiological controls, and facility support was reviewed for a period from January 1, 1995, through January 10 of this year.
The NRC review concludes that "overall performance was focused on safety" but weaknesses were noted in the areas of waste management, preventive maintenance, procedural adherence and adequacy, and knowledge of license requirements.
(Note: A copy of the full report may be obtained from the Region III Office of Public Affairs at the telephone numbers or e-mail address above or from the NRC internet site at http://www.nrc.gov/OPA/reports.)
