Dr. Shirley Ann Jackson, Chairman of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission, will hold a news conference on Thursday, March 20, at the Richland Federal Building, 825 Jadwin Ave. in Richland, Wash.
Dr. Jackson will speak with reporters at the end of a four-day trip to the Tri-Cities. She will visit the WNP-2 commercial nuclear plant, the Department of Energy's Hanford site, Siemens Power Corp. and U.S. Ecology. The NRC is becoming increasingly involved in certain DOE activities, including plans for immobilization of high-level wastes at Hanford.
The news conference will begin at 3 p.m. in Room 147 of the Federal Building.
Dr. Jackson was sworn in as a Commissioner in May 1995 and became Chairman on July 1 of that year. She has toured a number of nuclear power plants and NRC-licensed materials facilites in the U.S, as well as a number of foreign nuclear facilities.
