and Warnings issued for Hurricane Frances. |
HLS - Hurricane Local Statements - describes
local conditions and the precautions which should be taken
to reduce the storm's effects. HLSs are designed to provide
information about a hurricane's anticipated effects on
the forecast area and are intended to consolidate information
from the National Hurricane Center, local Emergency Management
authorities, and local weather forecast office resources.

ESF - Hydrologic Outlook - Used in situations where
flooding may be a problem in later forecast periods, but when the threat is beyond the time period (36 hours) of a flood watch. |
SVS - Severe Weather Statements - Provide
information on severe weather conditions that are
occurring or have occurred. These were issued to update
Severe Thunderstorm and Tornado Warnings and, most
importantly, to track the progress of Frances' eyewall
through central Florida. |
TOR - Tornado Warning - issued when a reliable
tornado report has been received or if Weather Service
Doppler radar indicates a tornado signature or a high
probability of tornado occurrence in an environment
favorable for tornado genesis. |
SPS - Special Weather Statement - used to
describe the possible adverse effects of weather that are
below warning or advisory criteria. |
FFA - Flood Watch - issued when there is a
threat of significant flooding. |
FFW - Flood Warning - reserved for short-term
flooding events (< 6 hours) which require immediate action
to protect lives and property, such as dangerous small
stream or urban flooding. |
FFS - Flood Statement - Issued to supplement or cancel a Flash Flood Warning. |
CFW - Coastal Flood Watch, Warning or Statement - issued at least every 6 hours as follow-ups to watches and warnings to keep the public fully informed of the long term weather situation, and used to issue a High Surf Advisory when there is no Coastal Flood Watch/Warning in effect. |
LSR - Local Storm Report - issued as reports of severe weather are received from outside sources. |
