Meet the Photographers - Emily B. Christman

CDR Emily Beard Christman's first seagoing experience was aboard the schooner HARVEY GAMAGE during a semester at sea program.

She joined the NOAA Corps in 1984 after graduating from Indiana University with a degree in geography/environmental studies. She has served tours of duty aboard the NOAA Ships SURVEYOR, OCEANOGRAPHER, McARTHUR, and WHITING, as well as temporary assignments to RAINIER, RUDE, and RONALD H. BROWN, which together took her as far south as Lima, Peru, as far north as Barrow, AK, west to Hawaii and east - well, east, only to Georgia.

Shore assignments have included stints with the Pacific Marine Environmental Laboratory, the Commissioned Personnel Center, the Hydrographic Surveys Division, and the Office of Response and Restoration. (One of the benefits of a NOAA Corps career is the opportunity to see NOAA from many different perspectives!) CDR Christman holds a USCG 1600 ton masters license and an environmental policy masters degree from the University of Maryland. She currently lives in Maryland with her husband Budd, son Jack, and Kitty, the smartest dog in the world.
