Partnerships

The Office of Protected Resources partners with a variety of stakeholders including state, Federal, national, and international agencies and universities, industry, zoos and aquaria, and environmental and animal welfare organizations.

For example, NOAA Fisheries has partnered with the Department of State's Bureau of Oceans, Environment and Science (OES) to support scientific, technological, and environmental initiatives in member countries of the Central America - Dominican Republic (CAFTA-DR) Free Trade Agreement (FTA) during 2007 and 2008. Specifically, NOAA will use funds to expand the capacity of the CAFTA countries to reduce bycatch of sea turtles in longline and trawl fisheries, improve fisheries management and enforcement, and reduce threats from invasive species. These research and management activities build upon past and ongoing cooperative activities and frameworks in the region, including existing regional programs to promote sustainable fisheries management and reduce marine turtle bycatch, as well as partnerships with the World Wildlife Fund This link is an external site. and the Inter-American Tropical Tuna Commission This link is an external site..
