Sept. 22, 2008 | President Bush signed into law on Sept. 17 an extension of the Ensuring Continued Access to Student Loans Act of 2008 (H.R. 6889), adding another year to the secretary of education’s authority to purchase student loans from lenders in the federal student loan program in the event those lenders were unable to access the needed capital.
