President Signs Extension of Ensuring Continued Access to Student Loans Act
Sept. 22, 2008 | President Bush signed into law on Sept. 17 an extension of the Ensuring Continued Access to Student Loans Act of 2008 (H.R. 6889), adding another year to the secretary of education’s authority to purchase student loans from lenders in the federal student loan program in the event those lenders were unable to access the needed capital.

Sept. 19, 2008 | A new report issued yesterday calls for bold change in both the concept and delivery of federal student aid in this country, noting that years of rising tuitions and incremental changes in policy have only served to make the system more complex and unapproachable to students at every income level, particularly the neediest.
