Cerebral Palsy is
caused by damage to the developing brain, usually occurring before,
during or shortly after birth.

Brain damage can also
occur during infancy due to infection or trauma.

A person with
cerebral palsy cannot fully control motor function (e.g., walking),
and may also have an impairment of speech, balance, sight, hearing,
or cognition.

Cerebral Palsy is not
a disease, and not considered curable, however, education, therapy,
and applied technology can help individuals with cerebral palsy lead
active, independent and productive lives.
Locally, 96% of every
dollar received is used to provide direct services; 4% for management,
general office expense, and fundraising.
65% of children and
adults receiving services through UCP have primary disabilities other
than Cerebral Palsy.
All therapeutic programs
and services are provided at no cost to the families of individuals with
special needs.
