Several organizations offer free access to material safety data sheets (MSDS).

  • MSDS Search—National Repository (http://www.msdssearch.com/msdssearch.htm) Exit NIEHS Website
    Free access to over 2,500,000 material safety data sheets—the largest centralized reference source available on the Internet. Besides searching their site, they also offer cross-searching of various other organizations offering MSDSs (e.g., Vermont SIRI, Seaton Compliance, and University of Akron). Also includes a “last resort” link to suggestions for finding that elusive MSDS.

    Browse either alphabetically by manufacturer or search using whole or partial words, company name, product name or the CAS or NSN. Also includes the ability to search toxicology reports.

    Comprehensive list of links to online sources for material safety data sheets.

National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) (http://www.cdc.gov/niosh/homepage.html) Exit NIEHS Website
The federal agency responsible for conducting research and making recommendations for the prevention of work-related injury and illness. Access NIOSH publications, databases, reports on health hazard evaluations and fact sheets related to chemical safety, musculoskeletal disorders and emergency response, among others.
