How to play MPEG movies

To play an MPEG movie with your web browser, you need to have a "helper application" capable of playing the MPEG movie format on your computer. You may already have one, so the first thing to try is clicking on one of the movie links from our Video Page and see if a movie pops up. If so, you don't need the information on this page. If not, you need to download a multimedia player that can handle the MPEG format. There are many players out there, but the following two will do the job just fine.

For PC computers, download Windows Media Player.

For MacIntosh or PC computers, download Quicktime Player .

Both of these links provide all the information you need to install the movie players on you computer. A few of our movies are in AVI or Quicktime format (which can also be viewed with the two players linked to above). After you have downloaded the players you need, come back to the Video Page and check out our movie clips of submarine volcanoes and seafloor hot springs!
