NCI Summer Curriculum in Cancer Prevention

Thank you for your interest in NCI's Summer Curriculum in Cancer Prevention. The 2008 Summer Curriculum will include two courses to be held in Rockville, Maryland:

Advance registration is required and is now open. For international participants interested in financial support, the deadline is February 15, 2008.

Eligibility

All courses are open to physicians, scientists, and other health care professionals who have an interest in cancer prevention and control. Recommended prerequisites are epidemiology, biostatistics, and cancer biology. Preference is given to individuals with a doctoral degree.

Registration Requirements

  • Curriculum vitae (include complete work address, telephone, fax, and e-mail)
  • Letter of nomination from the director of your institute or department on official letterhead
  • Course title (i.e., Principles and Practice of Cancer Prevention Course, Molecular Prevention Course, or both courses)

Course Schedule and Faculty Information

Lectures for both courses are scheduled Monday through Friday, 8:30 to 10:00 a.m., 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon, and 1:00 to 2:30 p.m.

The faculty for both courses (Principles and Practice of Cancer Prevention and Control Course, Molecular Prevention Course) consists of approximately 85 experts from the NIH, NCI, other government agencies, academia, cancer centers, and public and private organizations.

  • Curriculum vitae (include complete work address, telephone, fax, and e-mail)
  • Copy of doctoral degree, and/or DrPH and MPH degrees (in original language with English translation, if necessary)
  • Letter of nomination from the director of your institute or department on official letterhead
  • Letter stating your proficiency in written and spoken English
  • Course title (i.e., Principles and Practice of Cancer Prevention Course, Molecular Prevention Course, or both courses)

Registration is currently open and is required due to space limitations. International registrations will close on February 15, 2008. This is to allow ample time for visa processing and other logistical requirements. There is no cost to register or attend either course. Registrants will be notified of their status after all materials have been received and reviewed. Applicants will be notified on their funding level by the Director, Office of International Affairs, NCI

There is no cost to register or participate in either course; however, room, board, and transportation expenses (including parking) are the responsibility of the participant. Limited funding for living expenses may be available for applicants from low, middle, and upper-middle income countries, or institutions in resource poor settings, who register for both courses (The Principles and Practice of Cancer Prevention and Control Course and the Molecular Prevention Course), or just the 4-week course (The Principles and Practices of Cancer Prevention and Control Course). Funding will not be provided for the 1-week Molecular Prevention Course alone.
