Compensation costs in State and local government, September 2007

Compensation costs for State and local government workers increased 0.8 percent from June to September 2007 (seasonally adjusted), compared to 1.1 percent for the quarter ended June 2007.

Wages and salaries rose 1.0 percent between June and September, compared with 0.8 percent in the prior quarter.

Benefit costs increased 0.7 percent, compared to 1.7 percent in the previous quarter.
