Inmate Training Programs

The best predictor of post-release success for incarcerated offenders is early employment. The Bureau of Prisons (BOP) provides many diverse and certified occupational training programs, as well as training and hands on work in Federal Prison Industries, designed to make inmates job ready after release. Employment search assistance is also provided to inmates releasing through community corrections centers (half-way houses).

Despite these on-going efforts, many prisoners find looking for and getting a job, after many years of incarceration, very difficult. Many have never held a legitimate job or participated in an actual job interview. These factors, coupled with limited current labor market information, increase the probability of unemployment or underemployment after release. For additional information click here.
