Milpitas buys email notification
A city-backed email notification service to residents, available free of charge to the public through the city's Web site, has been approved.
"I see it as one additional step of keeping our residents informed in regards to what goes on in their city," Councilmember Armando Gomez told council members. "It's kind of a paperless way, an easy way, of keeping our residents informed," Gomez said. "It's relatively cheap too, which is always a good thing."

Get Traffic Info on Email, Cell Phone
The Arizona Department of Transportation has set up a free subscription service that allows people to get updated information about restrictions, news and transportation issues.
"We wanted to make it more convenient for the public," ADOT spokeswoman Laura Douglas said. "We don't want people having to go looking for information about their commutes when we can give it to them directly," she said.

With Hurricane Gustav set to make landfall somewhere along the Gulf Coast early next week, Federal Emergency Management Agency officials are using digital subscription management services to let residents in six states know what the government is doing to prepare for the storm and how they can apply for relief.
