Capacity and generation of electricity from renewable sources in the United States.
- Renewable capacity increased 3.2 percent (3,188 megawatts) in 2006 over 2005. Most of the increase, 2,623 megawatts, was from wind power.
- Renewable generation was 9.5 percent of total electric generation in 2006, a slight increase over the 9 percent in 2005.
- The three States with the most renewable capacity and generation — Washington, California, and Oregon — are on the West Coast.
- California led all States in biomass, geothermal, and solar capacity and generation; Texas had the most wind power capacity and generation; while Washington had the most hydroelectric capacity and generation.
