How Do You Know If a Job Is Right For You?
Try it out---Intern at EIA! Internships at EIA provide an excellent opportunity to gain professional work experience and make key contacts in the energy field. The experience you acquire while interning in Washington, D.C. will help you prepare for your career of choice and give you a competitive edge for future employment and admission to graduate schools.

Part-Time / Summer Internships
EIA offers summer internships as well as part-time year-round opportunities during the school year. You can intern in a variety of energy-related fields (coal, electricity, natural gas, petroleum, renewables, etc.)

Your duties will vary depending on your assignment. For instance, some interns may analyze the effects of proposed energy legislation or explore and analyze trends in energy markets. Others may manage incoming energy survey data or build energy survey instruments and models. In most cases, you can earn school credit, too!

The Career Intern Program (CIP)
Some of our interns come to us via the Department of Energy Career Intern Program (CIP), a decentralized program that provides a database of qualified individuals to EIA or other DOE offices looking for interns. Individuals participating in the CIP are considered full-time permanent employees and earn a salary. If you are interested in this program, please complete this questionnaire. For more information on internship opportunities at EIA, please email careers@eia.doe.gov.
