HIGHLIGHTS OF JUNEAU, AK
NATIONAL COMPENSATION SURVEY NOVEMBER 2001

Workers in the Juneau, Alaska, area averaged $20.09 per hour during November 2001 according to a new survey released by the U.S. Department of Labor’s Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). Regional Commissioner Stanley P. Stephenson reported that white-collar workers averaged $22.89 per hour. Blue-collar employees averaged $19.49 per hour, while those in service occupations earned $11.29 per hour. (See table 1.)

The National Compensation Survey (NCS) is part of a statistical program that will eventually integrate three separate surveys of wages and benefits into one comprehensive compensation program increasing the amount of wage data available. Data presented in this release are straight-time earnings for occupations in establishments employing 50 or more workers in private industry and State and local governments. The survey excludes agricultural establishments, private households, the self-employed, and the Federal Government. This NCS covered 14 establishments in the Juneau area.

Among white-collar workers, those in executive, administrative and managerial positions averaged $33.49 per hour, and administrative support workers earned $13.74. In the blue-collar occupations, precision production, craft, and repair workers made $22.20 per hour. Occupational characteristics available show that private industry workers in Juneau earned $12.98 per hour and state and local government employees averaged $23.79. For full-time workers, earnings averaged $20.74 per hour compared to $11.49 per hour for part-timers.
