Crisis Supports For Families and Caregivers

In-Home Behavioral Support Services: The Behavior Support Team (BeST) at Seattle Children's Home (external) works with families that have children with developmental disabilities who are experiencing behavioral and emotional challenges. To be eligible a child must be enrolled with the State DDD, be age 3-17, and live in King County.

The BeST Team will respond to you the same working day via telephone and can come to your home within 72 hours for urgent situations. The BeST services are short-term, 8-12 weeks, and are comprehensive. The number of visits to a family each week is determined on an individual basis. The average is 1-2 meetings a week. In-home services include functional behavioral assessment, positive behavior support planning, training for parents and caregivers, family counseling, and linkages to other service providers (schools, medical, and social services).

The BeST team’s work with individual children is based on the interaction within the family unit. The BeST team member will try to meet with as many members of the family system as possible. He or she will listen to the challenges presented, observe the family process, write an assessment, establish goals with the family, develop a behavior support plan, consult with community partners and be a present support to the family. The BeST team members will work collaboratively with your family to reach your goals.
