WHAT IS YOUR COMPLAINT?

Name of mass media invention promoter advertised in: Internet

Invention promotion services offered to be performed: Product design research to look for similar patents, then design and develop new product and work with manufactures to try to obtain a licensing agreement

Explanation of complaint between customer and invention promoter: From the start the representative was very excited about my idea and eager to move forward at a cost. First $685.00 to get started, a search was to be done to locate and similar items as well as a “patent search for design and development purposes… completed by a former USPTO examiner” what I received was a portfolio or summary containing patents that appeared to be downloaded off the internet, basically demonstrating or creating impression that no similar currently exist. I did a more detailed search that did not cost me anything. Portfolio also included “product design research” showing pictures of items not similar to my idea. When I spoke to rep regarding this, again he was very excited and said all was good and that we should move forward to locate a corporation. After speaking with rep again he said companies would not consider new products without a prototype and he’d send a proposal with 3 part options to build sample and virtual image. Nearly three months passed before anything else was done. Received name of potential company, again rep very excited but said prototype necessary so paid the lesser of three options, $8704 plus 20% royalties. Virtual image was received over three months later. Not what expected, looked cheap and did not resemble product idea at all, but again figured in to deep to stop but at this point calls were not returned. Four months went by with no reply. Received executive summary and that’s where it ends. As far as I know no attempt to license was ever done and product did not resemble my idea.
