The Heroes of 9/11: The Photos
people used the word "heroes" to describe the people who rushed to the World Trade Centers in New York, the countryside of Pennsylvania and the Pentagon in Virginia to try and save victims of the terrorist acts. Even after it was clear that those who were alive had been rescued, these same heroes still worked hard to clear the terrible sites.
The heroes - both men and women -- came in many different uniforms, from communities throughout the country, with many different jobs to do. They used cranes or trained dogs or heavy equipment or sheer strength to do their jobs. Some came to help the heroes - doctors, physical therapists, veterinarians. But whatever they came to do, they did it because they loved their country and wanted to honor those who lost their lives. These pictures tell a part of this terrible and wonderful story.
