FY 2009 Climate Program Announcement
The FY 2009 Climate Program Announcement was published as a Notice in the July 11, 2008 Federal Register and the Federal Funding Opportunity posted. Both are available on the Climate Program Office Web Site under Opportunities. The Federal Funding Opportunity contained under the header "FY 2009 Climate Program Announcement" contains full information.

The Climate Program is soliciting proposals is 9 separate competitions. Due date for Proposals for all Program Elements is 5:00 P.M. Eastern Time October 9, 2008. Start Dates for awards are anticipated as August 1, 2009.

Due date for Letters of Intent for all Program Elements is 5:00 P.M. Eastern Time, August 11 2008.

Federal Institutions may also apply to the FY 2009 Climate Program Announcement by sending electronic copies of the Letter of Intent (LOI) and Proposal to the appropriate Program Manager by the same due dates for non-Federal institutions.

Also note that on multi-institutional proposals, all non-Federal partner institutions must submit a proposal through grants.gov

NOAA Leads Climate Impact and Adaptation Activities
Agency Contributes to Scientific Foundation of IPCC

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change released its report on impacts, Adaptation and vulnerability to climate change for the Fourth Assessment. Ongoing research conducted by NOAA contributed to a large part of the progress that has been made since the Third Assessment in 2001. Many NOAA-funded activities contributed data and research to the growing body of literature on impacts and adaptation assessed by the 2007 report. "NOAA's climate research and related work extends far beyond its contributions to IPCC, and adds direct benefit to the nation and to the world through various products that are used in commerce, government and the every-day lives of ordinary people," said retired Navy VADM Conrad Lautenbacher, Ph.D., undersecretary of commerce for oceans and atmosphere and NOAA administrator.

About NOAA's Climate Program Office
The Climate Program Office (CPO), created in October 2005, incorporates the Office of Global Programs, the Arctic Research Office, and the Climate Observations and Services Program and, coordinates climate activities across all NOAA. The new CPO focuses on developing a broader user community for climate products and services, provides NOAA a focal point for climate activities within NOAA, leads NOAA climate education and outreach activities, and coordinates international climate activities.

NOAA's Climate goal is to: "Understand and describe climate variability and change to enhance society's ability to plan and respond".

NOAA's Climate Goal is an end-to-end endeavor focused on providing decision makers a predictive understanding of the global climate system and to "translate" this information so the public can incorporate the information and products into their decisions. These outcomes are achieved through implementation of a global observing system, focused research to understand key climate processes, improved modeling capabilities, and the development and delivery of climate information services.

These activities serve as a foundation for NOAA's participation in the interagency U.S. Climate Change Science Program (CCSP). NOAA relies on its federal, academic, private, and international partners to achieve its objectives. These objectives are implemented through five distinct, yet integrated, programs: Climate Observation and Analysis, Climate Forcing, Climate Predictions and Projections, Climate and Ecosystems and regional Decision Support.
