bunk bed fire The CD-ROM implementation of the NIST FASTData Fire Test Database is a browseable collection of fire test related data in the format of the Fire Data Management System Version 2, based on the FDMS database structure. In addition to descriptions of the tests and the test data itself, it includes pictures, videos, and documentation of the tests where available. Data can be saved to a hard disk in several formats for further analysis. Currently, the data collection includes 455 tests ranging from cone calorimeter tests of single materials and assemblies to real-scale tests of single- and multiple-compartment configurations. The included data focus on heat release rate, but additional data including temperatures, species concentration, mass loss, and flows are included in some tests.

A Web preview version (does not contain the data) of the NIST FASTData Fire Test Database may be viewed at http://fire.nist.gov/fastdata.

The data are indexed by:

  • Document,a list of documents associated with the tests in the database.
  • Laboratory, a list of the laboratories that conducted the tests included in the database.
  • Material, a list of component materials and assemblies associated with the tests in the data base.
  • Movies/Stills, a list of tests in the database that contain movies and/or still pictures.
  • Operator, a list of the personnel who conducted the tests included in the database.
  • Scientific officer, a list of the personnel in charge of the tests included in the database.
  • Sponsor, a list of the organizations that sponsored the tests included in the database.
  • Test date, a list of the tests included in the database ordered by the date each test was conducted.
  • Type of test, a list of the different types of tests included in the database.
  • Filename, a complete list of the names of the files included in the database, primarily for reference only.

System requirements:

Microsoft WindowsT 95, 98, 2000 or NT 4.0 or higher; 32MB memory, Pentium 166 or better recommended; screen resolution of 800 x 600 or higher; web browser equivalent to Microsoft Internet Explorer, version 3 or higher or Netscape Navigator, version 3 or higher. Included with the database are programs to allow viewing and plotting of test data and conversion of the data from the FDMS format to files that can be used with spreadsheet software. Use of this software requires Microsoft Internet Explorer, version 4.01 or higher.
