Toxicology Excellence for Risk Assessment 
(TERA)  

The mission of TERA is to support the protection of public health by developing, reviewing and communicating risk assessment values and analyses, improving risk methods through research, and educating risk assessors and managers and the public on risk assessment issues.  TERA provides sponsors and the public with independent and objective opinions. Five of our toxicologists are certified by the American Board of Toxicology. Specific activities of TERA include:

• Establishing high quality risk assessment values for public health and the environment through the Verifiable Estimates for Risk Assessment (VERA) program;
• Compiling and freely distributing peer-reviewed risk values to the public through the International Toxicity Estimates for Risk (ITER) database; supporting public health protection by improving the process and efficiency of risk assessment, and increasing the capacity for developing risk information to meet growing demand through ARA, the Alliance for Risk Assessment, and RiskIE, the Risk Information Exchange
• Conducting public expert Peer Review and Peer Consultation of risk values, including VCCEP Peer Consultations;
• Improving the underlying methods for human and ecological risk assessment through Research and Publications;
• Education and Training for diverse groups, including the public, on risk assessment issues, through training courses and scientific support
• Public assistance and the State Hazard Evaluation Lending Program (State HELP);
• Improving public health through the practice of  risk assessment by independent, neutral and objective guidance and advice.
