Division of Investment Management — Attorney Openings

The SEC's Division of Investment Management is accepting applications for staff attorney positions in its offices in Washington, DC. The Division oversees and regulates the investment management industry and administers the securities laws governing investment companies (e.g., mutual funds, closed-end funds, and UITs), investment advisers, and variable insurance products (e.g., variable annuities and variable life insurance contracts). In applying the federal securities laws to the investment company and investment adviser industry, the Division works to improve disclosure and minimize risk for investors without imposing undue costs on regulated entities. Staff attorneys in the Division (1) interpret laws and regulations for the public and SEC inspection and enforcement staff; (2) respond to "no-action" requests and requests for exemptive relief; (3) review investment company and investment adviser filings; (4) review enforcement matters involving investment companies and advisers; and (5) develop new rules and amendments to adapt regulatory structures to new circumstances.

Attorney applicants must have a J.D. from an accredited law school, be a member of the bar, have a minimum of one full year of legal experience--as a member of the bar--in the securities field or in a related financial field, and have strong writing, communication, and analytical skills. Demonstrated experience with and knowledge of the statutes administered by the Commission, with a particular emphasis on the Investment Company Act of 1940 and/or the Investment Advisers Act of 1940, is especially desirable.

Salaries range from $87,548 to $133,383, depending on experience. To apply for these positions, you must provide (1) a cover letter that outlines your relevant background and experience and (2) a current resume. Applicants selected for an interview also may be asked to provide a law school transcript, a 5 to 10-page writing sample, and references. To apply, please email or mail the requested documentation to:
