  • Product 1.3 (Re-analyses of historical climate data for key atmospheric features. Implications for attribution of causes of observed change) [Review period now closed]
  • Product 4.1 (Coastal elevation and sensitivity to sea level rise)[Review period now closed]
  • Product 5.1 (Uses and limitations of observations, data, forecasts, and other projections in decision support for selected sectors and regions). [Review period now closed]
  • Product 5.3. Decision support experiments and evaluations using seasonal to interannual forecasts and observational data. [Review period now closed]

These drafts describe the proposed focus of each product and the process that will be used to prepare it. Expert and public comments are requested to ensure that each product meets the highest scientific standards, that the information provided is relevant, and that the preparation process is open and perceived to be fair. Intergovernemental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Working Group II First Order Draft Review.  The First Order draft of the WG II report is available for expert review from 12 September to 4 November 2005. If you would like to review this draft and have not already provided your contact details to IPCC Working Group II, please inform the Technical Support Unit at ipcc-wg2@metoffice.gov.uk.

Start of Government/Expert Review of 2006 IPCC Guidelines for National Greenhouse Gas Inventories.  Letter (dtd 12 September 2005) to expert reviewers from Thelma Krug and Taka Hiraishi (Co-Chairs, Task Force Bureau, National Greenhouse Gas Inventories Programme, Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change [IPCC]).  The letter invites reviewers to contribute to the Expert Review of the Second Order Draft of the 2006 IPCC Guidelines for National Greenhouse Gas Inventories (2006 Guidelines). The review started on 12

Climate Change Science Program (CCSP) Product Development Committee (CPDC) for Synthesis and Assessment Product 1.1.  Notice published in the Federal Register (9 Sep 2005), announcing formation of the CPDC and inviting comments.  The committee "will consist of no more than 30 members to be appointed by the Under Secretary to assure a balanced representation among preeminent scientists, educators, and experts reflecting the full scope of the scientific issues addressed in CCSP Synthesis and Assessment Product 1.1. The CPDC-S&A 1.1 will function solely as an advisory body, and in compliance with the provisions of the Federal Advisory Committee Act. Its charter will be filed under the Act, 15 days from the date of publication of this notice in the Federal Register. "

National Research Council (NRC) Seeks Nominations for Oversight Committee.  The NRC is establishing a committee to oversee the Climate Change Science Program. Seeking Nominations.  The National Research Council's Board on Atmospheric Sciences and Climate is seeking nominations for an ad hoc committee to identify lessons learned from past global change assessments and to guide future global change assessment activities of the CCSP. Presents the findings of "a committee to develop quantitative metrics and performance measures for documenting progress and evaluating future performance for selected areas of global change and climate change research." Preparation of Fourth U.S. Climate Action ReportFederal Register notice from the U.S. Department of State, 8 April 2005.  The U.S. Government is currently preparing its fourth national communication to the Secretariat of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).  The report is due by 1 January 2006. This announcement solicits contributions and input on the issues to be covered in the report. Written comments should be received on or before noon, April 29, 2005.  The State Department intends to make available for public review a draft report in summer 2005. (link posted 18 April 2005)

Radiative Forcing of Climate Change: Expanding the Concept and Addressing Uncertainties.  Report (released 16 Dec 2004) from the National Academies' Board on Atmospheric Sciences and Climate. The report, requested by the CCSP, examines the current state of knowledge regarding the direct and indirect radiative forcing effects of gases, aerosols, land-use, and solar variability on the climate of the Earth's surface and atmosphere.
