High Resolution Fourier Transform Spectrometer
High Resolution Fourier Transform Spectrometer

Quick Specs

  • Bruker IFS 120HR maximum resolution of 0.0015 cm-1 equipped with several gas cells
  • Bruker IFS 125HR maximum resolution of 0.0013 cm-1 equipped with gas cell and White cell

The infrared spectroscopy laboratory in EMSL has two research-grade Fourier transform spectrometers available for collaborative use. The first is a Bruker IFS 120HR that has a maximum resolution of 0.0015 cm-1 and can cover the 10 cm-1 to 45,000 cm-1 range (far-infrared to ultraviolet). The spectrometer is equipped with several gas sample cells: a 20 cm gas cell with temperature control over -60 °C to 80 °C, 40 m and 200 m White cells (room temperature), and a cw slit-jet molecular beam for recording spectra of supersonically cooled molecular spectra (rotational temperature down to 15 K).

The second spectrometer is a Bruker IFS 125HR that has a maximum resolution of 0.0013 cm-1 and can also cover the 10 cm-1 to 45,000 cm-1 range. It also has a 20 cm gas cell (-60 °C to 80 °C temperature control) and a 40 m White cell (room temperature). Both systems have an all-metal gas manifold with high-precision capacitance manometers for gas pressure measurements. Both spectrometers can be used for molecular spectroscopy line position studies or intensity and line-broadening studies.
