ACCRA, GHANA - During a meeting today, Henrietta Fore, Director of U.S. Foreign Assistance and Administrator of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) applauded the efforts of Ghana's business advocates who work at the local, regional and national level for legal and regulatory changes to improve the business environment in Ghana.

"I was impressed and encouraged by the determination and national scope of the efforts by the business advocates in Ghana who've received Business Sector Advocacy Challenge Funds from a donor partnership effort. Creating an environment for and re-enforcing a competitive, vibrant business community is essential to building a robust economy in Ghana. I'm thankful to my development colleagues at Danida and DFID who join USAID in funding this important building block of Ghana's private sector success," said Administrator Fore.

The local business associations funded through the Business Sector Advocacy Challenge Fund (BUSAC), shared stories of successful advocacy along with exhibits that were displayed at the British Council building in Accra. Fore viewed the exhibit and met with Ghanaian business advocates. She was joined by Ulles Tornaes, the Development Minister of Denmark (Danida), and Minouche Shafik, the Permanent Secretary of Great Britain's Department for International Development (DFID). BUSAC which is jointly funded by USAID, DFID, and Danida, highlights country ownership and more inclusive partnerships, core principles of aid effectiveness.

The visit was part of Administrator Fore's agenda while attending the High Level Forum on Aid Effectiveness in Accra, Ghana, September 2-4. More than 100 donor and partner country ministers, leaders of development agencies, and civil society organizations are in attendance at the High Level Forum on Aid Effectiveness. Henrietta Fore serves as the U.S. Government delegation leader at the Forum for Aid Effectiveness.
