PEPFAR supports host nations' wide-ranging programs to meet the needs of orphans and vulnerable children (OVC) affected by the pandemic, as well as people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA). As of September 30, 2007, PEPFAR supported care for 6.6 million people, including approximately 2.7 million OVCs and nearly four million PLWHA.

In FY2007, PEPFAR provided 30.9 percent of focus country program resources, or $906.5 million, in support of care (including $223 million for counseling and testing programs).

Five-Year Goal in the 15 Focus Countries:

  • Support care for 10 million people infected and affected by HIV/AIDS, including orphans and vulnerable children.
Progress Achieved through September 30, 2007:
  • Supported care for nearly 6.6 million, including care for more than 2.7 million orphans and vulnerable children
  • Supported over 33 million counseling and testing sessions to date for men, women and children.
