This workshop sought to assist the NICHD in formulating a research agenda to examine the role of genetics as a possible underlying factor in the racial and ethnic health disparity that exists in the incidence of premature birth and low birth weight infants. The objectives of the workshop were to review the research done in this area, identify important research gaps, and suggest various strategies to close these gaps.
